Once I started my business online, I was looking for a reliable email marketing tool. I stumbled upon AciveCampaign, one of the recommended options by some experts. So, I gave it a try; not so deep, however, I formed my own opinion about it.

In this AciveCampaign review, I’ll walk you through my personal experience, highlighting its pros and cons. Also, since I am not an expert in this field, I will include insights from professionals to give you a well-rounded perspective. By the end, you’ll have a clear picture of AciveCampaign, helping you decide if it’s the right fit for you.

ActiveCampaign is more than just an email marketing platform. It is a tool designed to help you if you run a business automate your emails, manage contacts, and track sales with its built-in CRM. You can create simple email sequences or set up advanced workflows to engage customers automatically.

But no tool is perfect. While ActiveCampaign has great features, it might feel complicated for beginners or those who just want to send basic emails. Also, the price depends on the features you need, so it’s important to see if it fits your budget.

By the end of this review, you’ll know what ActiveCampaign offers, who it’s best for, and whether it’s the right choice for your business. Let’s get started.

How to Setup an ActiveCampaign Account in 2025

Once you create and activate your ActiveCampaign account, you’ll be guided through a quick setup process to personalize your experience. The platform will ask a few questions, including:

  • How many contacts or prospects do you have?
  • How many employees are in your company?
  • What industry is your business in?

After you complete this step, you’ll be redirected to your dashboard, where you’ll need to finish setting up your account.

ActiveCampaign Setup

Complete the Basics – To start sending campaigns and automating your business, you’ll need to verify your email and import your contact list (if you already have one).

Set Up Customer Communication – This involves integrating your store. The available integrations depend on the industry you selected during signup. Additionally, you can create a form to embed on your website or landing page to collect subscribers.

Orchestrate Your Customer Experience – This is where you build your first email campaign and automation workflows. You can also start managing your sales cycle with ActiveCampaign’s CRM features.

Overall, setting up ActiveCampaign is straightforward and should take no more than 10 minutes, even if you’re a beginner. If you’re already familiar with these tasks, you can skip the guided setup and dive straight into the platform.

ActiveCampaign key features in 2025?

Email Marketing

When it comes to communicating with my audience, ActiveCampaign makes it easy to create professional and engaging emails. Whether I want to start from scratch or use the drag-and-drop editor, I can design beautiful, responsive emails without any coding skills. I can even use AI to enhance my content or simply choose from pre-designed templates. Let’s explore both options.

To get started, I go to Campaigns > Create a Campaign.

ActiveCampaign gives me six different campaign types to choose from:

  • Standard – A regular email campaign for updates, promotions, or newsletters.
  • Split Testing – Helps me test different subject lines, and content, or send times to see what works best.
  • RSS Triggered – Automatically sends emails when my blog or website gets updated.
  • Date-Based – Perfect for sending emails on special dates like birthdays or anniversaries.
  • Automated – Works within automation workflows to engage customers at the right time.
  • Autoresponder – Sends a sequence of emails automatically after someone subscribes.

After choosing the campaign type that fits my needs, I click Next, then select “Create with Email Designer” to start building my email.

For now, I’ll go with the Standard Campaign, but don’t worry—I’ll cover the other options later.

Drag-and-drop editor

For the drag-and-drop editor, I found that ActiveCamaign has a clear, fast, and easy-to-use editor. I was able to import and create my design effortlessly. Actually, this drag-and-drop is one of the best I tried across all the platforms. It offers many fonts, around 38, with the ability to import new ones; although it is not recommended as a best practice, you can if necessary. You will find on the editor, structures, blocks, emojis, and global settings where you can customize everything as you like. I was able to design my email easily, as you can see in the screenshot below.
Drag and drop editor test
Overall, the drag-and-drop editor is easy to use, flexible, and smooth. Its blocks are more than enough for you to create what you imagine. You will find also an AI generator included to generate more attractive content.

Templates

If you prefer using ready-made templates, then ActiveCamaign provides you with over 250 impressive and responsive templates.
Example of ready made templates
The best part? These templates are fully customizable, so you can effortlessly adjust them as you like to match your brand’s style. Also, they include important features like interactive elements and mobile responsiveness, which will let you engage your audience no matter where they are.

A/B Split testing

This feature allows you to test different subject lines, email content, and even full landing pages to find what works best for your audience. No more guessing—decisions based on data will result in better engagement and conversions.

RSS triggered

By using the power of this feature, you can automatically trigger email notifications when you publish new content on your websites or blogs. This will save you the time you spend copying and pasting.Besides that, your audience will stay informed and engaged with the latest news, updates, or promotions, delivered straight to their inbox the moment they’re available.

With the power of this feature, you can build a strong relationship with your audience by sending them personalized emails on birthdays, anniversaries, or other important dates stored in your CRM.You can make your audience feel valued by showing them your care.

Marketing Automation

Did you subscribe before to the email list of your favorite store or service provider? So, immediately after a moment, you received a welcome email. This is exactly what this feature does, and more. With this amazing feature, you can work smarter, not harder, by streamlining repetitive tasks, saving your time, and personalizing customer experiences at scale. You can automatically send welcome emails to your new subscribers, nurturing leads with targeted content based on their interests, or re-engaging inactive contacts with relevant offers.Actually, the platform won’t disappoint you when it comes to automation. You can between over 750 pre-built automation templates ” recipes”, that are categorized by industry if you’re just getting started.

Or simply start your automation from scratch and add your own triggers and actions. The first thing you will come across when you start your first automation is a popup that will ask you to select a trigger. Choose the event that will start your automated email sequence. I’ve selected “subscribes to a list” in my case here.
ACtiveCampaign automation triggers
Next, you must “select a list”, and “Runs”. Also, you can “segment the contacts entering this automation” in the advanced settings. And finally, select “Add a New Action”.Now, you can start building your automation workflows with the drag-and-drop editor. You can edit or insert new or multiple triggers, add conditions like if/else logic, split paths (for a/b testing), and more.

You will also find the AI builder helps you build your automation easily.Overall, you can automate entire customer journeys, starting from campaign engagement to personalized deal nurturing and seamless e-commerce experiences. Connect with leads via SMS while centralizing all contact management for a unified view of your audience. Simplify your workflows, save time, and boost results with ActiveCampaign’s comprehensive automation capabilities.

Autoresponder

Also, ActiveCampaign offers autoresponders. It is a more simplistic form of email automation. They react to a single trigger (like signups, purchases, or website activity ) by sending a pre-written email. You can create automated email sequences that deliver targeted messages whether immediately or after a specific time, to welcome your new subscribers, educate leads, or re-engage inactive contacts.

Landing Pages

To build a landing page in ActiveCampaign, click Website > Pages > Create a new page.Once you click to create a new page, you will find over 62 pre-designed templates (despite being less than some competitors like GetResponse, which offers 93 templates). Also, you can start your own from scratch which is time-consuming.
Landing page pre-built templates on ActiveCampaign
It is recommended to start with a ready template and edit it to match your brand. All templates are good-looking, responsive, and easy to customize by anyone, whether a beginner or a pro. You can customize it using a drag-and-drop builder, which will make it easy for you to modify the page as you like.
ActiveCampaign landing page drag-and-drop builder
I was able to edit a template smoothly and effortlessly, so I can say that almost everything you may need to build a professional page exists. However, the AI builder is not available, unlike GetResponse, which offers an AI builder that will generate the entire landing page quickly.

Forms

Forms are an important feature you can’t do without since it is your way to collect email lists and capture leads. You can build your own by heading over to Website > Forms > Create a new form.In this section, you will be able to create a form for your website. Once you click to create a new form, you will have to name it and pick the style of your form, whether inline form, floating bar, floating box, or modular.

Finally, you will be redirected to the form easy-to-use drag-and-drop editor. As you can see in the screenshot below, Under fields, you can drag everything you need to design your form as you like adding the fields of info you want to collect (First & last name, phone number, and email). Also, you can add your custom code using the HTML editor or a Captcha. Under style, you can edit the appearance of your form, and under options you can write your thanks message after someone subscribes or adds an action.

You can also integrate it with your WordPress website through a plugin, a Facebook page, a link, or by embedding code.

You can find integrations (apps) in Dashboard > AppsWhen it comes to integrations, ActiveCampaign does a great job. This includes popular platforms like Shopify, PayPal, Woocommerce, Facebook, WordPress, Google Analytics, and more.

Deals CRM

If you are a pro, you already understand what this feature does, however, if you are still a beginner you may not. Well, imagine sales being a messy desk full of papers. Deals CRM works like a magic organizer for it.This amazing feature in ActiveCampaign allows you to track potential customers (“deals”) as they go through your sales process, similar to steps on a ladder. You can track who is about to buy, set reminders, and even have the system do things automatically (like send emails) to save you time. You will find also Reports which is a good feature for understanding what works and what doesn’t, they’re more like spreadsheets than flashy pictures. If you want to avoid the sales desk chaos and focus on closing deals, this feature is your buddy.

Reporting

Under Reports Activecampaign lets you track every aspect of your email marketing, starting from opens, and clicks, to unsubscribes, revenue, and even goal completions. Also, you can integrate seamlessly with popular eCommerce platforms to help you get clear ROI insights.

Other Features

  • Segmentation and targeting: Divide your contacts into groups based on their interests, demographics, or behavior.
  • Chat: Add live chat to your website to connect with visitors in real-time.
  • SMS marketing: Send targeted SMS messages to your customers.

ActiveCampaign Deliverability

In terms of deliverability, according to a test at EmailToolTester, ActiveCampaign performs very well. Emails usually land in inboxes for major providers like Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, and AOL. Their deliverability is strong and consistent, making them a solid choice for email marketers.ActiveCampaign also offers one-on-one consultations to help improve deliverability, though for a small fee. They take spam seriously but could have stricter filters. Unlike some competitors, they allow affiliate links with certain restrictions. One downside is that dedicated IP addresses are only available for very large accounts with 100,000+ active contacts. Overall, EmailToolTester rates ActiveCampaign as one of the best options for getting your emails seen.

Customer Support

ActiveCampaign offers different ways to contact them in 6 languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, and Italian). If you want to get an account, you can submit your request or call them at +1 (800) 357-0402. However, if you already have an account, you can either submit a request or use the live chat. So, it offers different ways: email, phone, and live chat. Since live chat is the most popular and fastest way, I decided to test it to see how fast they would answer. Actually, it takes less than 5 minutes to receive an answer, which is perfect. However, phone support is only available to contact the sales team if you want to get an account, and it is not available for general things. The other thing is that they reported that the support is available 24/7, while in an article about “How to Contact the ActiveCampaign Customer Experience Team,” they said that their live chat is available Monday–Thursday from 6 am to 11 pm, and Friday from 6 am to 4 pm. This can be overwhelming. Overall, the support based on my test is fast and responsive.
